Ekta Parishad started the fast this morning with a meeting with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh to discuss the laws and ordinances in the state. Ekta Parishad founder Rajagopal P.V. wants to protest against policies which affect the tribal and farmer community in Madhya Pradesh.
Hundreds of farmers from more than 20 districts are participating in the Satyagraha in Bhopal. With this fast the land right organization wants to achieve three main goals: The reconstitution of a Land Reform Task Force in Madhya Pradesh which should work on the issues of land. Ekta Parishad wants to fight against an initiative from the Government which gives corporates the possibility to buy agriculture land. Another initiative of Government is to make changes on an act which brings out that non-tribal-groups can buy tribals land.
The main reasons to hold this fast are the unfulfilled promises of the government in Madhya Pradesh. Ekta Parishad president Ran Singh Parmar said, that the government should act now and sign. "We have to take action on the land issues now one - before summer. Otherwise it will be to late for several farmers in the state". He also added that marginalized groups of farmers and tribals were harassed by the government in many cases.
The fast in the Neelam park is planned to last until the 29th of April and will continue as long as the government does not take actions on the demands of Ekta Parishad.
