Yatra reaches Delhi, main protests on Jantar Mantar started

The protests against the Land Acquisition Ordinance on the Jantar Matar continued today with the participation of many organizations concerned with the Land Right issue. The protests brought together thousands of people in the heart of Delhi around Jantar Mantar. In the afternoon, anti-corruption-crusader Anna Hazare spoke to the gathered Adivasi, Dalits and landless farmers.

The marchers from Ekta Parishad had to change their planned route and arrived in the evening at the place of protest. On the way, the march of the around 5000 Adivasi, Dalits and landless people halted due to different circumstances. Instead of arriving at 2pm, the marchers had to walk a different and longer route in direction to Jantar Mantar.

The participants of the march were brave during the last day of marching in direction to Delhi and kept on walking even on the fourth day of the Padyatra. Although they were tired and had just one meal a day they mastered the double distance in a laudable way. In the early evening, the participants of the Padyatra
finally arrived at Jantar Mantar where they will stay for the night.

Tomorrow is an important day for Ekta Parishad and all the organizations concerning Land Rights: Yesterday evening the government promised to representatives of Ekta Parishad that they will give a response to the demands of the Satyagrahrisin the next 48 hours. Ekta Parishad's main issues and demands are:

- Reconstitute and reactivate the National Land Reforms Council
- Introduce the Homestead Bill 2013 in the Parliament
- Initiate steps to approve the Land Reforms Policy 2013
- Initiate steps to strengthen the implementation of Forest Rights Act 2006

The government should soon initiate steps for a discussion on land-reform by activating the National Land Reforms Council.
